Traveling around Hong Kong is very convenient with the available of MTR. Most of the time I travel around Hong Kong I used MTR and my legs heh. They consists of many different routes around Hong Kong Island as well as Kowloon and New Territories area. Each stations are quite complete with useful information such as various exits towards certain roads, sign boards in English and Chinese telling the roads the exit is leading us to, etc.
MTR Route Map
Being underground inside the station, you can find there are many exits. Each exits leads you close enough to the place you wants to go as long as you go out the correct exit. Once you go to the wrong exit… sorry to say you have to walk all the way back to the correct one heh. So make sure you know where you are heading coz the station is really HUGE and you will regret to have to U turn.
Here are some example of sign boards available around the stations. All comes in English and Chinese so don’t need to worry for people like me who doesn’t know how to read Chinese
Around the stations
Inside the train
Inside the train, they have those indicators showing you will reach which station next and which station you’ve passed. It is more convenient if you buy the Octopus card when you are traveling on the MTR. Well one thing is you don’t need to buy tickets(lining up) and the charges are slightly cheaper than if you buy normal ticket if I am not mistaken.
My octopus card
Normal On Loan Card is 150HKD. It comes with 100HKD credits. The 50 bucks is actually some sort like deposits. You can return it when you no more using it and they will refund you the deposits with the balance credit inside the card. The train runs till quite late so you can see many people walking around even the time is like so late at night especially around Mong Kok area.
Something you don’t see everyday heh
They also have various kind of vending machines available around the stations. Like the one above… books.
Looks familiar? Must be in one of those Hong Kong series heh. Their tunnel inside the station
As you know there are many people in Hong Kong so you will expect LOTS of them during peak hours. Every station you reached they will also announce it in 3 different language; English, Mandarin & Cantonese. One word : Convenient
